Rajkummar Rao On Why He Said YES To ‘Maalik’
National Award–winning actor Rajkummar Rao revealed that he gravitates toward meaningful and impactful roles rather than dance-heavy performances. Citing films like Shahid, Maalik, and Newton, the actor said he values characters with depth and substance. When asked whether he would prefer to be known as a dancing star or for his intense performances, Rao made it clear that he stands by the latter. In an Interview with IANS, Rajkummar said, ‘I’ll choose Shahid, Maalik, and Newton of the world because I can dance at a party too, make a video and upload it.’ He further added that opportunities like these don’t come easily.
Maalik Cast, Plot And More
Directed by debutant Pulkit, Maalik is set against the gritty and pulsating backdrop of Allahabad in the 1980s. The film follows the journey of a young man from a modest farming background who steps into the world of crime. Rajkummar Rao is seen in a never-seen-before ruthless avatar as he rises through the ranks to become the city’s most powerful and feared gangster, known as Maalik.
The film also stars Prosenjit Chatterjee, Saurabh Shukla, and Saurabh Sachdeva in key roles. The music is composed by Sachin Sanghvi and Jigar Saraiya, with lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya.
