97 Government Schools To Be Shut Down In Sikkim Due To Low Student Numbers

Theย Sikkimย government has decidedย toย closeย 97ย schoolsย after the current semesterย dueย toย low student enrolment, Education Minister Raju Basnet said on Thursday.

Theย schoolsย identified for closureย include 78 primary, 12 junior high and seven senior secondary.

Basnet added thatย studentsย from theseย institutes willย beย mergedย into the nearest functionalย schoolsย at the endย ofย the current semester.

“The decision aimsย toย ensureย better utilisationย ofย resources andย toย enhance the qualityย ofย education,” Basnet added.

He emphasised that theย Sikkimย Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government, led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, has made education aย top priority.

“The government is committedย toย providing quality education and has allocated theย best availableย infrastructure and resources across the state’sย schools,” he said.
