At least 5 people were killed and several others were wounded in a shooting incident in east Jerusalem on Monday, before Israeli security forces neutralised the ‘terrorists’, as per media reports.
Preliminary reports cited by local media indicated that at least two attackers were involved in carrying out the shooting before being neutralised by police.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the assailants or provided further details on their possible affiliation. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the incident.
The shooting took place at Ramot Junction on Yigal Yadin Street in Jerusalem, where armed attackers reportedly boarded a bus and opened fire on passengers.
According to media reports, the incident occurred at a busy intersection near the northern entrance to Jerusalem, on a road that connects to Jewish settlements in east Jerusalem.
Israeli Defence Minister’s Warning To Hamas
The attack came only hours after Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned the Palestinian militant group Hamas to surrender and give up its weapons, threatening that the group would face total destruction if it refused.
“This is a final warning to the murderers and rapists of Hamas in Gaza and in luxury hotels abroad: Release the hostages and lay down your weapons—or Gaza will be destroyed, and you will be annihilated,” Israel Katz said in the post on X.
Trump’s Final Warning To Hamas
On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump declared that he was delivering a “final warning” to Hamas, calling on the group to agree to a deal for the release of hostages held in Gaza.
“The Israelis have accepted my terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well. I have warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting. This is my last warning,” Trump said on Social Media.
