A US federal appeals court has ruled that most of the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration were not in accordance with the law, President Donald Trump on Friday (local time) insisted that all tariffs would remain in effect, dismissing the court’s decision as the ruling of a “highly partisan appeals court.”
“ALL TARIFFS ARE STILL IN EFFECT! Today a Highly Partisan Appeals Court incorrectly said that our Tariffs should be removed, but they know the United States of America will win in the end. If these Tariffs ever went away, it would be a total disaster for the Country. It would make us financially weak, and we have to be strong,” Trump said in a post on truth Social.
US President Donald Trump’s remarks came after a federal appeals court ruled that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act does not give a president the authority to impose tariffs of the kind Trump had introduced earlier this year. In an unsigned opinion, the Federal Circuit upheld a lower court’s decision striking down Trump’s tariffs, CNN reported.
The judges observed that Trump’s move represented an overreach of executive power, stressing that the authority to levy taxes, including tariffs, is “a core Congressional power” reserved for the legislative branch under the Constitution, according to CNN.
Defending his stance, Trump warned that the United States would no longer accept large trade deficits or tolerate unfair tariffs and non-tariff barriers imposed by other countries.

“If allowed to stand, this Decision would literally destroy the United States of America,” he added.
Ahead of the Labor Day weekend, Trump emphasised the importance of tariffs in supporting American workers and companies. “We should all remember that TARIFFS are the best tool to help our Workers, and support Companies that produce great MADE IN AMERICA products.
