Gunshots were fired outside the Bareilly residence of Bollywood actor Disha Patani early Friday morning. In a shocking development, a social media post attributed to the notorious Goldy Brar gang has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating it was in retaliation for an alleged “insult” to Hindu saints.
Police affirmed that a few rounds were discharged in front of the Patani family residence in Civil Lines around 4:30 a.m., but no one was injured. The authorities have since initiated an inquiry into the incident and the authenticity of the social media threat.
The Gang’s Threat And The Alleged Insult
The responsibility claim came in a creepy Hindi message that explicitly named two men, Virendra Charan and Mahendra Saran, as the masterminds behind the attack. The post claims that Disha Patani had “insulted our respected saints (Premanand Ji Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya Ji Maharaj)” and attempted to “humiliate our Sanatan Dharma.”
The message clearly termed the incident as “just a trailer” and issued a warning to the entire film industry, declaring that anyone who disrespected their religion or saints again in the future would face fatal repercussions. Police are now confirming the post and investigating those responsible for the firing.
The row seemed to have been triggered by comments by Disha Patani’s sister, Khushboo Patani, who had criticized a spiritual guru’s views on live-in relationships. The comments were misquoted on social media, and the backlash that followed and the misunderstanding that ensued culminated in the present threat.
Police Investigate And Step Up Security
After the attack, police units were sent to the Patani house immediately, which is now under increased security. Officials are canvassing the area for evidence such as bullet shells as they continue searching to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
The attack has created a tide of alarm among the entire Bollywood community, bringing to light the emerging problem of online harassment and intimidation measures placed on public personalities. Authorities continue to advise the public to remain calm and report any suspicious behavior as the investigation is still underway.
