Six people were killed after a portion of the roof at Dargah Sharif Patte Shah, located near Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area, collapsed on Friday.
An eyewitness said he heard a loud rumbling before rushing to help the victims.
“The incident occurred at Humayun Compound, near the Dargah, in a two-room dwelling unit. Injured have been admitted to the hospital. According to information received from the hospital, six people have died,” IANS quoted DM Sarvan Kumar as saying.
Unverified reports suggest that 15 to 20 people, including the imam, were inside the building when the nearly 25- to 30-year-old structure gave way.
11 People Rescued
Police confirmed that 11 people have been rescued so far, ANI reported.
Ten people were taken to hospitals, nine to AIIMS Trauma Centre and one to RML Hospital. A fire department official stated that of the nine admitted to AIIMS, three women and two men were declared dead by doctors, while the remaining four, including a four-year-old child, survived.
NDRF personnel, along with Police and Fire Department teams, conducted searches and cleared debris to locate any remaining trapped persons.

Joint Commissioner Of Police On Roof Collapse
Joint Commissioner of Police, South Range, Sanjay Kumar Jain, told reporters that the incident occurred when people visiting the dargah for Friday prayers had taken shelter inside due to the rain.
“The building block is in a dangerous condition, with one wall of the structure also weak. Those who had come to the mosque and dargah had taken shelter inside due to the rain,” PTI quoted the Joint Commissioner of Police as saying.
According to a rescue team official, the dargah’s imam was inside the building when the collapse occurred.
Authorities Probing Cause Of Roof Collapse
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the roof collapse at the Dargah of Hazrat Patte Shah, located on the outskirts of the Humayun’s Tomb complex.
