After the death of 41 people after staphade broke out in Tamil Nadu’s Karur, Actor and TVK chief Vijay made his first public appearance on Tuesday via sharing a video on X. He said, “Chief Minister sir… if you have vendetta plans, do anything to me. Don’t touch my leaders. I will be at home or in office.”

In a self-made video posted on social media, he expressed his pain and said, “I have never faced such a painful situation in my life. My heart is aching, I am in deep pain.”

“People come to see me in this campaign, the only reason behind it is love and affection. In my life, I have never experienced such pain. I will soon meet the victims,” he added.

The stampede occurred at Vijay’s rally last week. He said people’s safety has been a top priority for him.

“Apart from all things, people’s safety was the top priority I had always in my heart. Living aside all the political reasons, we always request permission for better, safe place to the police, considering the people’s safety, but things which shouldn’t have happened have happened,” he said.

NDA-BJP delegation in Karur

An eight-member NDA-BJP delegation reached Karur today and met those undergoing treatment in the hospital as part of its fact-finding mission into Saturday’s incident. Congress general secretary (Organisation) and MP KC Venugopal also visited the site and received a briefing on the situation.

On Monday, TVK filed a writ petition in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, pleading for the transfer of the probe into the stampede from the State police to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

In the writ petition, the TVK alleged that Saturday’s “incident was solely motivated by the DMK and its functionaries.”

“A petition has been filed before the High Court of Madras, Madurai Bench, seeking a transfer of the case from the Town Police Station of Karur to the Central Investigation Team for a probe into the entire occurrence,” Arivazhagan, the advocate for TVK, told reporters here.
