Durgapur Gang Rape: After Out At 12:30 AM Remark, Mamata Says Distorted My Words

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday lashed out at the media for distorting her words after her comments on the alleged gangrape of a medical student in Durgapur.

Banerjee clarified that her statement had been “distorted” and urged the media not to indulge in “politics” over the issue.

“The media distorted my words. You ask me a question, I answer it, and then you distort it. Do not try this kind of politics…” the chief minister said, ANI reported.

CM Mamata Earlier Remark

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday condemned the incident and assured stringent action against the perpetrators.

Banerjee made shocking remarks as she reportedly advised colleges not to allow girls to go outside at night.

“She was studying in a private medical college… whose responsibility? how they came out in the night at 12:30?…” the CM said. 

“I’m shocked to see the incident, but private medical colleges also should take care of their students, and especially girls. The girls should not be allowed to go outside (college) at night. They have to protect themselves also. There is a forest area. Police are searching all the people,” Mamata Banerjee said.

Meanwhile, Odisha Congress President Bhakta Charan Das also condemned the incident and appealed to the West Bengal government to deliver immediate justice.

A second-year student of a private medical college was allegedly gangraped in Durgapur. The survivor belonds from Jaleswar, Odisha.
