Following the encounter, security forces initiated a comprehensive search operation in the surrounding areas to ensure no additional infiltrators or threats remained. The operation is still underway, with authorities maintaining heightened vigilance in the region.
The identities of the terrorists or their affiliations are being ascertained; the operation underscores the ongoing challenge of cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Gurez sector, located near the LoC, is a strategically significant area being very near to PoK and adjacent to the Kishan Ganga river, making it a frequent route for infiltration attempts.
The rugged terrain, high altitude, and challenging weather conditions in the Gurez sector, often exacerbated by heavy snowfall or landslides, add complexity to such operations. However, despite adverse conditions, the Indian Army continues to monitor the LoC to prevent any further infiltration attempts closely.
Uri Infiltration Bid
In another incident, on August 13, the Chinar Corps paid tributes to Havildar Ankit Kumar, who made the sacrifice while foiling the infiltration bid along the LoC in the Uri sector of Baramulla district.
“Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of Braveheart Havildar Ankit Kumar, who laid down his life while undertaking operational duty along the Line of Control in Uri, Baramulla,” the post read.
“Chinar Warriors salute his immense valour and sacrifice, express deepest condolence and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family,” it added.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Special Operations Group (SOG) on Wednesday recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition, and other materials from a terror hideout in the Bhuvan Forest, Rajwar area of Handwara, Kupwara district.
