Justice Reddy Has Our Support, Says AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi Ahead Of VP Polls

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi announced that the party will extend its support to “fellow Hyderabadi and a respected jurist” Justice Sudershan Reddy in the upcoming Vice Presidential elections. 

Owaisi shared that Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy personally requested AIMIM’s backing for Justice Reddy

“@TelanganaCMO spoke to me today and requested that we support Justice Sudershan Reddy as Vice President. @aimim_national will extend its support to Justice Reddy, a fellow Hyderabadi and a respected jurist. I also spoke to Justice Reddy and expressed our best wishes to him,” the AIMIM chief wrote in a post on X.

Who Is Justice B Sudershan Reddy?

Justice B Sudershan Reddy, who previously served as the Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court, was elevated to the Supreme Court in 2007 and retired in July 2011.

Earlier in his career, he served as Additional Standing Counsel for the Central Government for a period of six months in 1990. He also held the position of Legal Adviser and Standing Counsel for Osmania University. On May 2, 1995, he was appointed as a permanent Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Reddy, who has never been a member of any political party, said he will not join one in the future either. He also expressed confidence in winning the Vice Presidential election, stating, “I am 100% sure of winning this election… I have been receiving a tremendous response wherever I go.”

Vice-Presidential Election And Result Date

The Vice-Presidential election is scheduled for September 9, with the counting of votes set to take place the same day.

The post fell vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar stepped down on July 21, the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, citing health concerns.

The Vice President is elected by an electoral college comprising members of both Houses of Parliament.
