A Ganesh Chaturthi immersion procession in Mumbai turned tragic when an electrocution incident claimed the life of one person and left five others injured.

The mishap took place around 10:45 am on Sunday on Khairani Road in Mumbai’s Sakinaka area, when a hanging electric wire came into contact with the Ganpati idol, resulting in six devotees suffering electric shock.

Residents quickly moved the injured to nearby private hospitals, while one victim was shifted to the civic-run Seven Hills Hospital for treatment.

Earlier Accidents

This accident adds to a string of similar mishaps during Ganesh Visarjan processions across the country this festive season.

Earlier in the week, a 21-year-old youth, Shivaji alias Shubham Sakpal, lost his life in Vijayapura, Karnataka, when he came into contact with a live wire during an idol immersion. Two others, Lakhan Chavan and Prabhu Jagate, sustained serious burn injuries and were hospitalized. The tragedy occurred near Gandhi Chowk, Dobale Galli, when the trio attempted to move a live wire with a stick, but accidentally came in contact with it as the vehicle and DJ system touched the line.

Just days before, another accident was reported in West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, where a tractor carrying devotees overturned during Ganesh festival celebrations. The mishap left four people dead and one critically injured.
