“Spoke with my friend President Putin and conveyed warm birthday greetings and best wishes for his good health and long life. Deeply appreciate his personal commitment to deepening India–Russia ties over the years,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

On October 3, India and Russia marked the 25th anniversary of the Declaration of Strategic Partnership between both countries.

The Declaration on Strategic Partnership, signed on October 3, 2000, by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Russian President Vladimir Putin, elevated India–Russia relations to a new level. It laid the foundation for coordinated approaches to international peace and security, closer cooperation on key global and regional issues, and deeper engagement in economic, cultural, educational, and other spheres.

“The year 2025 has already been rich with numerous bilateral exchanges and a particularly warm and substantial engagement of our leaders at the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin. Later this year, we look forward to the upcoming bilateral summit in New Delhi, which will coincide with the 15th anniversary of elevating our strategic partnership to the level of a ‘special and privileged’ relationship,” stated Denis Alipov, the Russian Ambassador to India, IANS reported.

New Delhi and Moscow are actively preparing for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India in December for the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier met Putin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit last month, stressing that close cooperation between the two nations is vital for global peace, prosperity, and stability.
