AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday responded to the controversy over the ‘I Love Muhammad’ campaign, questioning the objections raised against it.

Addressing a press conference in Bihar, Owaisi questioned the controversy around the ‘I Love Muhammad’ campaign, saying that opposing it essentially means being against love.

“What is anti-national about love? Are we promoting violence with love? What is the problem? This means you are against love. A Muslim is not a true Muslim till the time he believes in Mohammad as the last messenger of Allah. The biggest Muslim population in Asia lives in India. What kind of message are you giving with this reaction of yours? Happy Birthday, Prime Minister, and Happy Birthday, Chief Minister posters are allowed, but not this? They don’t want anyone to talk about love. What will happen? Where will we go?,” Owaisi said.

What Is The Row Over ‘I Love Muhammad’?

The row began on September 9 when Kanpur police registered an FIR against nine individuals and 15 unidentified persons for allegedly putting up “I Love Mohammad” signs along a road  during the ‘Eid Milad-un-Nabi’ (Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday) procession on September 4. Hindu groups objected to the display, calling it a deliberate provocation and a “new trend.”

The issue gained wider attention after Owaisi defended the posters on social media, asserting that expressing love for Muhammad is not a crime.

Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah Reacts

Owaisi’s criticism of the police action comes shortly after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah publicly defended the right to express affection for the Prophet. He questioned how a simple phrase like “I Love Muhammad” could be considered illegal and urged the judiciary to take prompt action.

“How is writing ‘I Love Muhammad’ unlawful?” CM Abdullah questioned.

“Even if you link it to a religion, what is wrong with it? Don’t followers of other religions write about their deities? Don’t our Sikh brothers and sisters write about their gurus? Don’t our Hindu brothers and sisters write about their various gods? They do,” CM Abdullah said.
