Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been named the India vice-captain fo rthe the upcoming home Test series against New Zealand, starting in Bengaluru on Wednesday (October 16, 2024).
Fellow pacer Mohammed Shami has not recovered in time from an injury, and will miss the three Tests. Shamiโs absence is of concern as this is Indiaโs last red-ball outings before the all-important five-Test series against Australia which commences on November 22.
Left-arm pacer Yash Dayal is the only name missing from the Test squad that defeated Bangladesh last month.
Tearaway quick Mayank Yadav and a fit-again Prasidh Krishna have been named as travelling reserves.
The first Test commences at Bengaluru on Wednesday. The second and third Tests will be played at Pune and Mumbai.
